Alumni Awards

We are proud of the achievements of our alumni and the positive difference you make in the world beyond your studies.

The 51ÊÓÆµ Alumni Awards recognise and celebrate this impact across a range of fields.

There are 10 award categories, outlined below, along with details on eligibility and the nomination process.

Deadline for submissions is Tuesday 7th July.

The Worcester Spirit Award

This category celebrates individuals whose story has captured public attention and inspired others. Ideal for those whose personal or professional journey has included raising awareness, changing perceptions or motivating communities.

Rising Star / Young Alumni

Designed to recognise outstanding early-career achievements, this award is perfect for recent alumni who are already making a significant impact. Best suited to ambitious individuals who have graduated in the last 5 years from the 51ÊÓÆµ and who are showing exceptional promise, leadership or innovation in their field. 

Lifetime Achievement

This award honours a sustained record of excellence and contribution over many years. It is suited to individuals who have graduated over 20 years ago and whose long-term dedication, influence and achievements since graduating have left a lasting legacy in their profession or community. 

Social Impact - Education

This category recognises those transforming lives through education, access to learning or skills development. Ideal for individuals working in education settings, leading initiatives, reforms or programmes that improve educational outcomes or opportunities for others.

Social Impact - Healthcare

This award celebrates contributions that improve health, wellbeing or access to care. Best suited to individuals making a measurable difference in healthcare delivery, innovation, advocacy or public health – locally or beyond. 

Outstanding Sportsperson

Celebrating excellence in sport, this award recognises high achievement and dedication in the sporting world. Ideal for individuals who, through their accomplishments as an athlete, coach, or leader, have inspired others, either as part of a team or individually. 

Local Community Impact

Focused on grassroots change, this category is for individuals who have significantly improved their local community. Suited to those leading volunteer work, community organisations or local initiatives with clear social benefit such as supporting groups to access services they need or creating new business to make a positive impact in their local community. 

International Impact

This award recognises individuals whose work has made a positive difference on a global scale. Ideal for those working internationally across sectors such as development, research, business or humanitarian causes. 

Innovation in Career

This category rewards originality and forward-thinking approaches within a profession. Best suited to individuals who have introduced new ideas or driven meaningful change through innovation. 

Sustainability

This category highlights individuals driving positive environmental or societal change. Best suited to those leading sustainable practices, climate action or systemic change that benefits future generations. 

Eligibility

All nominees must be graduates of the 51ÊÓÆµ (or its predecessor institutions, i.e.  Worcester College of Higher Education).

 Nominee details will be verified by our Student Records team to confirm eligibility.

Please note, awards will not be given:

  • Posthumously
  • To politicians who currently hold an elective office
  • To any member of the selection panel

Nominations process

Nominations are open to all graduates of the 51ÊÓÆµ, including those who studied at its predecessor institutions.

You may nominate yourself or another graduate. Where possible, please seek the nominee’s consent before submitting.

Each nomination must be for a single award category and submitted via the . Submissions must be in English, and supporting documents (such as CVs) will not be accepted.

Nominators should review the award criteria carefully. It is your responsibility to ensure the information provided is accurate and truthful. Any nominations found to be deliberately false or misleading will be disqualified.

All nomination content will be treated as confidential and shared only with the Alumni Awards Committee for assessment. Data will be handled in accordance with GDPR regulations.

If a nominee is selected as a finalist, information from their submission may be used for promotional purposes. Consent will be obtained from nominees before any material is publicised.

Selection process

The Alumni Awards Committee will meet in the summer to review nominations and select a winner for each category.

All decisions made by the Committee are final. The Committee reserves the right to exclude any nomination that does not align with the University’s values, without notice or explanation, and may also decide not to make an award if no suitable candidate is identified.

Category winners will automatically be entered into the Alumni Choice Award, which will be decided by a vote of the Alumni Association.

Winners will be notified in August. If a winner does not respond, the Committee reserves the right to offer the award to an alternative nominee.

All award recipients will be invited to a celebratory event and will receive a certificate.

Where awards are sponsored, sponsors will have no involvement in the selection process.

Nominees and winners may be featured across the University’s website, social media, alumni communications, and press activity. Consent will be obtained from nominees in advance, and nominators will be informed of the outcome.

The University reserves the right to withdraw an award at any time if, in its reasonable opinion, an individual’s actions could bring the University into disrepute. In such cases, recipients will be expected to remove references to the award from public platforms where reasonably possible.
